HyperTransport Consortium membership is the vehicle to A) secure legal license for commercial use of HyperTransport technology and B) to tap into a complete slate of extensive technical support platforms and services as well as uniquely powerful, high dollar value business/product promotion services toward global industry and media at no additional cost. In essence, members can leverage technical and business benefits that far outweigh their respective membership fee in value. Compulsory or Elective Membership

Consortium membership can be compulsory or elective, depending on how HyperTransport technology is leveraged commercially. Below are the various scenarios that determine whether HyperTransport Consortium membership is mandatory or otherwise.

Commercial implementation, promotion and/or sale of HyperTransport technology in a company-proprietary fashion require HyperTransport license.
Commercial use and promotion of HyperTransport Consortium's trademarks requires HyperTransport license.
Commercial implementation, promotion, and/or sale of HyperTransport technology that is acquired from licensed HyperTransport Consortium members and resold without introducing proprietary changes do not require HyperTransport license.
Non-commercial use of HyperTransport technology does not require HyperTransport license.
